Motor Vehicle Taxes
In the State of Connecticut both registered and unregistered motor vehicles are taxable on the local level. Motor vehicle taxes are due annually for vehicles registered as of October 1st, for newly registered or purchased vehicles, you will receive a partial bill, the month you receive the bill will depend on the month your vehicle was registered, please see below for more information:
- July Billing: Includes all vehicles registered in the Town of Wilton as of the previous October 1st. This bill covers October 1st through the following September. For example, the motor vehicle bill that is due in July 2026 will cover the time period of October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026. All vehicles registered between October 2nd and April 30th, will receive their initial partial bill in July as well. (For example, if your vehicle was registered in January, it would cover January through September)
- August Billing: Includes all vehicles registered from May 1st - May 31st. (This bill will cover May through September.)
- September Billing: Includes all vehicles registered from June 1st - June 30th. (This bill will cover June through September.)
- October Billing: Includes all vehicles registered from July 1st - July 31st. (This bill will cover July through September.)
- November Billing: Includes all vehicles registered from August 1st - August 31st. (This bill will cover August through September.)
- December Billing: Includes all vehicles registered from September 1st - September 30th. (This bill will cover September.)
